Dennis Mack, who has been a clown named Patches since I was a child, died last Monday at age 70. Dennis was a wonderful curmudgeony friend and an exemplary father to his eight children. He will be missed by many.

Ran into Bill Grimes outside of a Cloud Cult show in Dinkytown, where he has long been a fixture. Bill is a writer, a philosopher and a master conversationalist. He can usually be found lounging at the Kitty Cat Klub.

Just returned from Greenman with over 1000 photographs. I haven't been to Duluth since May so it was fun to see everyone again.

Out walking in the woods, I came into a clearing and saw the skull immediately. Not the huge skull, just the small darker one that forms the "nose." It was only after the first few photos that I saw the larger picture and scrambled for the wide angle lens. Clouds move, even as they become emblematic of one of the greatest rock bands in history:
I can't help thinking that this is what the Shoud of Turin might've looked like three days later had Jerry Garcia been wrapped within.

Regina Z, who usually bossily admonishes me for attempting to photograph her, was eager on the 4th to demonstrate her stretchy string for my camera - making triangles and witch's brooms and other complicated forms.
Last year, after the first time I posted a photo of her, she approached me at church complaining. "I don't know if I like people seeing me on your web site and knowing what I look like before they meet me. I want to be a surprise."
"Somehow I think you still will be," I replied.

Deb's son definitely got her creative gene. Ryan is an artist, a songwriter, a comedian, and an actor. His performance in the independent film Thicker Than Water was a bright, fun spark in an otherwise subdued movie. He is currently at work on a screenplay of his own called Demon Squirrels.

I spent the 4th of July with family and had a great time getting beaten at buckets all day by my boys. Many good photos taken on this day. More to come.

Just another day on the farm, grilling up dinner and listening to the birds twitter.
A random thing I noticed: The round trees in the distance are the same ones from this photo, and the pointy trees barely visible beyond those are the main feature in this one.
