Another shot of the staring contest we had a couple weeks ago.

06.29
Debora made this photo, and had this to say:

Gretsky said, "You miss 100% of the shots you never take."....
Thank you Joe for giving me a guest shot and letting it be a shot on you...:)...
Thank you Casey and Mishele for inluding me in the celebration of your wedding vows renewed...
Renewed and still...
engaged and love....Debora....:)

My brother Casey and his wife Mishele had their marraige blessed and recognized by the Catholic Church on Friday. I wish them continued good luck and happiness. They deserve it.

Everytime I run into Ulysses Zachary and ask him how he's doing he usually begins the same long story by saying "I don't mean to be making a long story short..." He was robbed of a lot of things by a motorcycle accident, but he's recovered what he can and tells anyone who will listen that it's good just to be alive.

06.24
This was taken at the exact same random stoplight where I saw this. Which is odd only because they are the only two "bumper irony" photos I've made.

Silvery clouds all day. Quite breathtaking at times. This was taken today at the Coon Rapids Dam.

Judy is an old friend. I found her skinny dipping at the lake the other day while out walking.

Got into a staring contest with this doe last Friday. It did not mind my presence as long I kept at least four meters away so I made a lot of pictures. In one it looks more like a kangaroo.

The Retribution Gospel Choir is a brand new project out of Duluth involving Alan Sparhawk (of Low and The Black-Eyed Snakes), Eric Pollard (of no wait wait and The Dukes of Hubbard) and Matt Livingston of Fair-weather Friend. This was photo was made during the Homegrown Festival and thier set, fittingly, consisted entirely of covers of songs by other Duluth bands. I believe it was the first time this band ever played before an audience.

(Thanks for the info Nancy!)

We've both been really tired lately. Not that we aren't sleeping. I sure have. Strange dreams too. Dual ironies last night. First I dreamed that the darkroom I was using became a small bus station. It filled with strangers who all left after getting off thier bus. In the confusion three of my cameras disappeared. I began searching in vain, knowing they'd been stolen and awoke in a panic which turned to relief at the realization that I still had them.

I soon fell into another photography dream (most of mine are, lately). This time it was wonderous. I was in a stone monastery run by thousand year-old monks belonging to some lost race. Thier ancient faces held all the answers to my deepest questions and they did not mind (or even notice) me photographing them. The alarm clock brought me back and I awoke in a profound happiness which turned to despair at the realization that none of the photographs I had made existed outside of that dream. And there was no way back to it.

Hot damn it was great to hear 89.3 The Current play Trampled by Turtles' The One to Save on the radio today. These guys deserve the airplay. Have a listen:

Sample track: The One to Save (6.1mb mp3)

Though she has an extensive performance background, since I've known her Deb has only sung by herself, closeted in her little studio. Never with others until the day this photo was made. She sounded great.

06.14
This is a detail from the horizon of this shot, made in April of 2004.

So feminine, what she is doing in these two shots.

This little drawing by Lexi has lived in the cupboard since the first week of my arrival in her family months ago. She puts little drawings like this around to encourage us.

By coincidence, Deb's Adventures in Reading class at the elementary school had just read The Ugly Duckling earlier in the day this was photo was made.

06.07
Wade is someone I met while Deb jammed with musicians on the beach.

06.06
The Lost Marbles playing and recording in their basement practice space.

I am quickly becoming a fan of The Lifters. They have this Hammond B3 driven, Chicago-bluesy sound that timewarps you back to the 70s.

Sample track: Electric Flowerseed (7.9mb mp3)

Though our relationship began only four months ago, we already feel like a family. Like we've been doing this for years, somehow.

06.03
This photo reminds me of this one.
