02.27 Congratulations to my brother Dan who wed his love Leah at a small, private ceremony yesterday in Eagan, Minnesota. A close-up of their smiles in this photo can be seen here.

02.26 I caught this look from Lexi as I was taking her and her sister to school. The camera was at hip-level. She's looking up at the face of her Mother's new boyfriend. My face. Her expression serves as a sturdy reminder to me that my arrival in Deb's life means that I hold in my hand this young girl's renewed hope at the possibility of living in an unbroken home.

02.25 My brother Casey bowling at a low-key impromptu bachelor party we threw for another brother of mine, Dan, who is getting married on Saturday. Casey is the gracious host of this web site, which lives on a server at his business.

02.23 Found this in a folder of photos from last Fall. Craig Minowa onstage with Cloud Cult at Slumber, a unique, annual (hopefully) 12 hour musical event that is the brainchild of Aaron Molina of if thousands. Slumber is structured so that the louder, faster bands play until bedtime. Then the more sedate drone bands softly lull the audience into their peejays and off to sleep.
Happy Birthday to my son Zac!

it's enough, goddammit, it's enough

02.17 Influences are funny things. You recognize a shot and take it realizing only later that you took it because of your interest in another's art. This shot owes a lot to Justin Ouellette of Chromogenic.net.

02.16 Yesterday morning was a winter wonderland and Deb and I took the camera for a walk in it. She met my older boys for the first time tonight and mentioned that this particular shot evokes how that felt.

02.12 My instructions were "close your eyes, forget about my camera and remember the happiest day of your life for awhile." I waited about ten seconds as she did so, and then got this picture.

02.11 I enjoy photographing the Z family because they have achieved a certain magical happiness in their household. The children (six of them with another on the way) are closely home-schooled by college educated parents who place God and family at the center of their approach, and not in a political-judgemental or ignorant fundamentalist way. The example set before them is so loving and consistent that these children are nurtured not only by their parents, but also by each other. No one has taught them how to bicker. Television is absent and not missed, even by the teenagers, and in its place simple pleasures abound: tupperware puddle boats and grocery bag suits of armor. This house is overrun with love and stands as a quiet example of how good life can be if we listen to the inner voice and make the right choices for our children.

02.10 Erica Z standing at the edge of her father's land. This was not posed. I was out walking with her family and framed the photo when I noticed her wandering away from the group. As she reached the right distance, I called her name and shot.
I'm sorry postings have been sporadic. I have been spending much of my time at my girlfriend's place and it took some time for me determine how best to connect my PowerBook to the internet from here.
