11.30
Another one from Aaron and Christian's recording session last week.

11.29
This was taken at church, under the same light as Dennis in this photo.

11.28
The moon was as bright as I can ever remember seeing it tonight. You could read by it. This is a 30 second exposure taken from the back porch with the aperture wide open, just before midnight.

11.27
A momentary tenderness between my cousin Miah and his mom at their house on Thanksgiving.

Full Moon 11.26
Moonlight in the high pines.

11.25
A 20 second exposure of the Northern lights from earlier this month. After taking this one I cursed under my breath and set my focus on infinity and took another. The sharper one was posted on Heather Powazek Champ's site last week.

11.24
Dawn is one of my mother's piano students.

The server is back up and running. If you've sent me an email in the last two days, please resend it.

Thank you Casey for the prompt repair!

11.23
The server crashed today and came back with the dreaded blinking question mark. Eek.

11.22
Spent the weekend with Aaron and Christian at Crazy Beast Studio in NE Minneapolis, photographing them as they recorded a new if thousands album (due out around March). This is a very sedate record, similar to Lullaby and at least as beautiful. Paul Metzger of TVBC plays on it as well as a horn section featuring members of 2i. This photo will be the CD's foldout cover.

11.21
Alan's guitarmanship is featured heavily on no wait wait's upcoming self-titled release. This was taken during their recording sessions at Sacred Heart Studio in Duluth.

11.20
A shot from Semblesque meets Gonzo Science last month at the NorShor Theatre in Duluth.

I've been listening to The Keptones' A Night at the Hip-Hopera all day on my iPod, and I love it twice as much as I did when I raved about it yesterday. I agree with Kombinat's review, it's definitely the best album I've heard this year. Sheer genius.

11.19
A guest house on our property, and my shadow cast by the setting sun.

OMFG is this brilliant! You should take the time to download The Keptones' A Night at the Hip-Hopera, a stunning blend of classic and modern hip hop combined with Queen's epic catalog (and tons of other crazyass whatnot). Even though this album was created to be free and non-commercial, it's being suppressed by the Walt Disney Corporation, owners of Queen's catalog. And on that note, make sure to listen to the last track, Question.

11.18
Taken Last month at Slumber in Duluth.

11.17
Derek and I stopped to throw rocks through the thin ice of German Lake while on our way up the road to take the photo that was posted on Monday. He was wearing my pullover which would explain his sleeve in the photo. He's half my size.

11.16
Eric Pollard is the drummer for no wait wait. This shot was taken during their recording sessions at Sacred Heart Studio in Duluth a few months ago. He also plays drums, sings and parties for The Dukes of Hubbard.

11.15
Gotta drive defensively out here in the sticks.

One of my photos appears on Heather Powazek Champ's site today. Heather is an influential San Francisco-based photographer with immense talent and a penchant for pinhole experimentation. I am honored.

11.14
My brother Casey moved into a new house, and his son Alec now has a bedroom twice a big, hence the smile. Actually, he was just happy to see his Uncle Joe.

11.13
Low's new record The Great Destroyer is out in January, but a lucky few got to hear much of it recently at the MAC in Duluth. The show was in honor of Marc Gartman's birthday. Slowcore my ass. This is a rock album, and a truly great one at that.

11.12
Milkweed pods gone to seed dot the pasture like little white lanterns when the sun gets low.

11.11
This was taken while listening to if thousands last Sunday night in the field behind my home. The green of the auroa borealis is competing with the light pollution from Minneapolis 50 miles to the South.

I'm hoping people take the time to enjoy the large version of this photo.

11.10
I met Bill Grimes IV while waiting for Jake Larson and Charlie Parr to arrive at the Kitty Cat Klub for a show in Dinkytown. He sat under this enormous afro which had a feather nested in it. I couldn't resist the urge to ask for his portrait. Bill publishes his unique philosophical musings online. It contains chapters with titles like "The Electric Sky Church" that read:

Nevertheless, many people find that the typical life our culture promotes is somehow unrewarding and unfulfilling, even for those who are abundantly "successful." If you decide to leave the herd behind, and strive for true fulfillment, you make a choice that may set you on your own path.

Right on, Bill.

Michael Ferrier of Electropolis invited me to see thier performance of a full-length soundtrack to Fritz Lang's 1927 silent film Metropolis. Their soundtrack, a marvelously chaotic jazz/rock score that heightens the film's melodrama and punctuates all the right moments, will be released on CD. I hope it includeds a syncronization cue so I know when to hit Play on my DVD player.

11.08
Incredible Aurora Borealis tonight. Green, red, and blue arcs reaching high into the dome of the sky from all points on the compass. Dizzyingly beautiful. Later it became more generalized, a radioactive green overcast like the sky in Stephen King's bad novel The Tommyknockers.

11.07
Sweetass Duluth punk rock. Can't wait 'til these three finally release their CD.

11.06
Father as creator of me. The phallic juxtaposition of the sky is intentional. He's pointing down at me as if calling me into existence while the power to create me blows from his loins like a wind. A power given to him by majestic forces far beyond and above him.

11.05
This was taken today at Peter's Grill downtown, where one might encounter The Ear.

11.04
Brandon and Derek in the morning. Still aspleep.

11.03
Taken in Duluth at Marc Gartman's house one morning last month.

11.02
The Omega Man poster has been on a pole across the street from where I work for a couple years. I walk past it all the time and have photographed it several times, though never well. I was beginning to think it was impervious to photography until the Blackhawk swooped in.

Very coincidently, this photo was taken on October 28th 2004, exactly two years from the date on the poster.

11.01
In the fog of my morning shower.

The madness has passed. I've restored the previous homepage design. Thank you for bearing with my little experiment.
