Showed up to shoot Chris Browkaw and Nathan Amundson at the Kitty Cat Klub tonight and could not parallel park to save my ass. Chris found the whole episode amusing.

This shot is from the night before at the MAC in Duluth.

Eric was a good friend of mine a couple years ago. It sucks when cool people move away. I hope he's well.

Aaron Molina (if thousands) 05.29
Going to Duluth today to visit Aaron and Christian, and photograph the Chris Brokaw/Alan Sparhawk/Rivulets/if thousands show. These shots are from the show last month.

05.28
Complete strangers. Just a chance shot while out walking at lunchtime.

05.27
Found this chameleon in an alley between 3rd and 4th downtown, flawlessly polished. Gleaming. This is a detail from this photo.

05.26
Minnesotans often drive in formations like this, oblivious to rules about "fast lanes" and whathaveyou. Something an old friend once called "the Minnesota Flying Wedge."

05.25
Army coming low across the neighbor's field, scaring the cows.

05.24
Another one taken inside the Minneapolis Post Office. The word on the wall is part of a "Self Service" sign.

05.23
In the church parking lot, running just because he can.

Minneapolis Post Office 05.22
Straight out of the 30s, the Minneapolis Post Office is possibly the strongest Art Deco building in the City. Inside, the main lobby is over 1,000 feet long and it is a monument of nicely shaped sandstone, marble and brass. It also features the longest brass light fixture in the U.S. stretching the entire length of the lobby.

05.21
Corner of 2nd Ave and 3rd St (Minneapolis). No idea who put the tie there. Cute though. The lucky lens flare suggests spectacles.

05.20
Another one taken on the same day as this shot, after we arrived home. After the storm. Great sky that day.

05.19
This was taken on the same day as this shot as we rode home from Hastings through the storm.

05.18
Sorry about the late post today. I got back from the retreat last night, and was too tired to post anything.

This shot was taken early this morning in the fog just after sunrise.

05.17
This was taken from the passenger seat of a slow-moving car.

Once again thanks Karla, now that's three!

05.16
Last skateboard shot (for now).

Thanks again Karla, that's two I owe you!

05.15
More skateboarding.

Thanks Karla, that's one I owe you!

05.14
I'm leaving today for a retreat, and will be gone until Monday night. But a wonderful woman I know has volunteered to update this space while I am away.

05.13
Out for a walk today I stopped to watch these guys practicing kickflips off of a warehouse loading dock. More of these coming.

05.12
Graffiti on an incline down by the tracks.

05.11
As a storm rolled into Hastings, Minnesota to drench what had been a beautiful Mother's Day, this eerie blue crack formed right over our heads, rotating hypnotically as the sky slowly turned all green and biblical. Minutes later the cloudburst chased us indoors.

05.10
This is one of many pieces from Coexistence, an outdoor art exhibit on display all around the world, photographed here on the North Plaza of the Hennepin County Government Center. The piece in the photo is by Lejla Bulja, and artist from Sarajevo. The U.N. flag happened to be there, and is not part of the exhibit.

05.09
Pulling the camera at the last moment of a long exposure to create the trails that describe the music that emanates from these two guys.

In a review for Pop Matters, Dave Heaton described if thousands' music as "more like a large sonic cloud that's overhead than a song or batch of songs... At various times, the music can feel comforting or ominous or filled with confusion, even when its tone hasn't really changed. There are no abrupt changes, no major shifts in style, tempo or key. Yet the more you listen, the more involving it becomes, like a painting that seems simple yet moves you in different ways the longer you give yourself to it."

05.08
Guitar cases spooning on the marble floor of Minneapolis City Hall rotunda during a performance by Winnepeg's J.H. Bruns School Guitar Orchestra.

05.07
This is from a long time ago, Halloween 2002 I think. It predates this site. A winter shot of this same structure was posted last January.

05.06
If you haven't seen Witness Iraq, you should take the time. It is a potent and sobering collection of images from many photojournalists who covered the war.

05.05
This portrait of if thousands was taken on Aaron's upstairs deck. His house overlooks much of Duluth.

05.04
I took this a month ago and have been meaning to post it. I remember thinking as I took these that 1882 was the year of the last transit of Venus, which will finally reoccur this year on June 8.

05.03
This resembles a comic book backdrop to me. As if Spiderman should be crouched against the side of the building. A silhouette.

05.02
Taken off the bridge at James L. Rice Parkway, near the Mississippi.

05.01
This is a close-up from the if thousands rehearsal.
